It could have been the dogs tongue that was bitten off when it was maybe hit by a car...those twiches could have been the residing nerve spasms due to sudden trauma(this is only my theory)

I was one of the 3 that stumbled across this and luckily had my camera on me... its the freakiest thing i have EVER seen in my life... the heart was 7 feet away from the body !!.. i heard no bang or noise... good times in sand pedro, from Dave

What's really sick is that 2 nights ago we exhumed the body of the dog to perform an autopsy. There were no exit wounds and the only way the heart could have gotten out was through the mouth. Some of us didn't think that was possible and thought that the heart came from somewhere else. From where? ...who knows!!

So, we just had to know if the heart was inside the chest cavity or not. It wasn't and neither were most of the lungs nor the liver. The chest and sternum were crushed and it was pretty easy to cut into the little feller. One of the most bizarre and most disgusting San Pedro drunken escapades yet; about ten of us with shovels, machetes, a hack saw, flashlights and a bar knife.

Yes, it is kind of sick, but the oddness of how the frickin' heart got out still baffles us. There's no visible wounds anywhere on the dog. The only conclusion was that it came out through its mouth, but even that's a stretch. I'm a big dog lover and definitely feel bad for the critter. He was a street dog that lots of folks knew around here in San Pedro, Guatemala.

Sick man - poor dog!

The heart can carry on beating for a short time after death - the Aztecs new this when they cut hearts out of people - google it!
